SoTL project course

5 weeks

The SoTL project course is an elective advanced course within the qualifying higher education teaching programme at LTH. The course is aimed at experienced teachers who want to explore their own teaching more systematically. The concept of SoTL – Scholarship of Teaching and Learning – includes a long-term scientific strategy and is an approach in which teachers develop their practice through scientific analysis of teaching and student learning against the background of current research and knowledge about teaching and learning in higher education.

Course structure

The course is spread over almost a year to enable participants to develop, implement and evaluate a project that is finally presented to the public. The course project can be carried out individually, but a project together with two or more colleagues from the same department is an advantage. Participants discuss literature, drafts and the progress of their projects at a number of course meetings. Before the meetings, participants need to prepare by reading both common and self-selected texts and writing their own drafts in relation to their project.

Assessment

To pass the course, you need a minimum of 80% attendance at course meetings, completed course assignments (reading, producing and providing feedback on drafts and texts), completed development project including presentation in article format and public presentation.

Admission

Admission to the course normally requires a first-cycle degree and completion of at least 10 weeks of qualifying higher education teaching training, or that you have been appointed ETP (Excellent Teaching Practitioner), or equivalent. Exceptions to these requirements may be granted by the director of CEE. For example, it is possible to work in pairs – in which case it is sufficient that one person meets the requirement of 10 weeks/ETP.

Scope

The course corresponds to 5 weeks of work.
