Develop your assessment

Are you a course coordinator or responsible for course development? Are you considering new ways to assess your students, or would you like to explore and develop your assessment practices? Or are you curious about what the research says about different forms of assessment?
This course aims to inspire participants to reflect on assessments, assessment practices and activities related to assessments that promote both student learning and the quality of LTH’s programmes. A central theme in the course is reflection on participants’ own examination practices – their challenges, opportunities and frameworks – whilst also providing an opportunity to share knowledge and information about alternative forms of assessment. The course also covers the formal frameworks and regulations governing assessment at LTH.
The course is based on relevant research in teaching and learning in higher education, as well as the experience gained by the participants themselves through examining students in their respective subject areas. The course is built on three pillars: inspiration and information drawn from relevant literature and other parts of LTH; discussions and the sharing of experiences within the course group; and a project aimed at reflecting, investigating and developing assessment practices within one’s own context. The course encourages a research-based approach and aims to open the door to trying out new variations and forms of assessment.
Course structure
There are five course meetings in the form of workshops (half-days) in which participants are expected to take an active role. Between meetings, participants submit short assignments in the form of reflections based on relevant literature and/or their own experience. We would like to encourage collaboration between teachers at the same department, course and/or programme, so the assignments are ideally carried out by relevant groups of teachers.
To pass the course, students must attend at least 80% of the scheduled teaching time and pass the assessed assignments.
Admission
Admission to the course normally requires a bachelor’s degree, as well as completion of the course Introduction to teaching and learning in higher education, or the equivalent.
